Alvin Queen at The Jazz Standard This Week with An Incredible All-Star Band!

By popular demand, drummer Alvin Queen returns to New York City’s The Jazz Standard with an incredible All-Star band, starting Thursday, October 21 thru Sunday, October 24:

Alvin Queen – Drums
Javon Jackson – Tenor Sax
Joe Magnarelli – Trumpet
Melvin Sparks – Guitar
Leon Spencer in a VERY rare NYC appearance – Hammond B-3
Neil Clarke – Congas

The Jazz Standard is located at 116 East 27th Street, New York City. For reservations, call (212) 576-2232. For more detail, visit Alvin Queen here.

I would love to hear from anybody who attends any of the shows. With a cast like this, it promises to be very exciting indeed.

Just came across this post - I actually attended and recorded an interview with Leon Spencer as well. The shows were great. It makes me sad to say it now that he's passed but Melvin Sparks was really on fire as a guitarist and a singer on the four sets I saw. Mr. Queen was what you expect from him: crisp on the drums and great on the mic. Leon Spencer was rusty; it wasn't the same Spencer you hear on those Sonny Stitt albums, but it was great to hear him nonetheless.
